My Webpage design philosophy:
- SPEED
- To serious web users, time is money. They will NOT wait two minutes
(or more) for your main webpage to load. And, once they leave your site because
of time-wasting design, they are probably gone forever. Plus, you have then
acquired a reputation of being an organization that can't tell the glitz* from the goods.
Keep in mind that unless you are selling glitz*, your callers are coming to
your site ONLY to obtain information about your organization.
- LAYOUT
- The main (Home) page (at least) should fit on one screen without any scrolling.
- Colors should be selected to contrast and not clash, making the pages easy to read.
- Keep the content Simple and Business-like
- Small Graphics for fast loading
- Little or no animation or characters
- No 'Glitz', just practical information
- No frivolity or humor: strictly business
- No banners or other implied endorsements
- Nothing negative about our 'industry'
- No personal opinions or 'asides'
- No proprietary information
- No illegal or questionable content
- QUALITY
- All information up-to-date
- All links functional
- Free of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors
- USABILITY
- Usable with top browsers
- Internet Explorer
- Netscape
- Mozilla
- Firefox
- SeaMonkey
- Sized for most machines
- 1024x768 or better screen resolution
- 256 colors or better
* Glitz: gaudy, usually unnecessary glitter and flash. Generally detracts from the real
intent of the material being presented. Commonly used to express the author's ego.
